There are various immigration pathways in Canada that allow individuals to obtain permanent residence by establishing or buying a business, expanding the operations of your existing business to Canada, or as a self-employed person.

1.  Start-up Visa Program: This program targets entrepreneurs who want to establish a new business in Canada that can create jobs and compete globally. Applicants must have a viable business idea and secure support from a designated organization (venture capital fund, angel investor group, or business incubator).
2.  Self-Employed Persons Program: This program allows individuals who have relevant experience in cultural activities, athletics, or farming to apply for permanent residence as self-employed persons. Applicants must demonstrate the intention and ability to be self-employed in Canada and make a significant contribution to their field. Important Note: As of April 30, 2024, the intake for the Self-Employed Person Program has been paused until 2026 
3. Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs): Some provinces in Canada have specific streams within their PNPs that allow individuals to apply for permanent residence through the establishment or expansion of a business. For example, the British Columbia Entrepreneur Immigration stream or Ontario’s Entrepreneur Stream.
4. Quebec Entrepreneur Program: Quebec has its own set of immigration programs, including the Entrepreneur Program, which allows entrepreneurs to establish or buy a business in the province to obtain permanent residency.
